Tips for New Mothers to Overcome Postpartum Depression

Depression is something we all go through in our life, and some depressions are long term while some are short term. Many new mothers and fathers goes through postpartum depression which is very normal and curable. During and after pregnancy, your body and mind go through lots of changes which make you feel depressed. Let us go through Postpartum depression in detail and find proper cure to make you feel better and happy.

Postpartum is the time after Childbirth. Usually women may feel pain, sad, or anxious after childbirth and usually it lasts only 3-5 days, but for some women it takes time. Sometimes women may feel sad or anxious even after 2 weeks and that is when they have this Postpartum depression. Many women thinks it is not normal and make themselves more sad, but the truth is, it is completely okay and normal to have postpartum depression which is 100% curable.

1 in 9 mothers suffers from postpartum depression. The signs and symptoms of postpartum depression includes trouble sleeping, fatigue, mood swings, anger, crying, feeling of worthlessness, thoughts of hurting someone, trouble concentrating, feeling sick. One moment you will feel happy and next moment you will be sad. With determination, you can definetly find ways to cure your depression and be happy.

Tips to manage postpartum depression:

  • Ask help. Ask help from your family, friends and doctors in any way you need.
  • Be realistic in both you and your baby needs.
  • Exercise: Go for a walk and do some physical exercise. Consult your doctor before starting any form of exercise.
  • Follow a good diet. Eat healthy.
  • Spend time with your loved ones. Do not isolate yourself.
  • Sleep and rest well.
  • Celebrate even your small achievements.
  • Do not try to be a super mom. Honestly, as a new mom, we are learning, so take time and understand. Do not overdo.
  • Take sometime for yourself.
  • Reduce your stress and do not put pressure on yourself.

Remember postpartum depression is not your fault. You will be happy and everything takes time but with proper attention, you can always find ways to be happy.
